About the CII Public Lecture Series: One of the key ingredients of a functioning democracy is an informed citizenry. Recognizing this fundamental truth, CII (Confederation of Indian Industries), Central Gujarat Zonal Council is pleased to launch a "Public Lecture Series". The series aims to invite eminent speakers of national and international repute to talk on issues of topical interest and provide an interactive forum for the citizens of this region to enter into a dialogue not only with the eminent speakers but also among themselves with a view to understanding and improving the situation and environment to the extent possible.

Theme of the Inaugural Lecture: The first lecture in the series aims to ignite a discussion on the need for India as a society to become curious, questioning and innovative to regain her rightful place in the comity of nations. Dr. Pitroda, a man who has been able to combine technology and sociology to deliver innovative, appropriate and cost-effective solutions is the most appropriate person to launch this initiative.

About the Speaker: Dr. Sam Pitroda, an eminent technocrat and a patriotic Indian will launch the series through his talk on "Creating a curious, Questioning and Innovative society". Dr. Pitroda is well-known as the man who inspired the "Telecom Revolution" in India and is currently the Prime Minister of India's Adviser on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations and is Chairman of the Expert Committee on the use of ICT in Railways and National Innovation Council. He is also the Chairman of the Smart Grid Task Force set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India . He has recently been appointed the founding Commissioner of the United Nations Broadband Commission for Digital Development. He holds close to 100 worldwide patents and has published and lectured widely in the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
